Testimonial for History Revealed curriculum

———————————————————————————————-

I heartily recommend Diana Waring’s Romans, Reformers, Revolutionaries: A Biblical World History Curriculum.  Waring’s love of God, passion for history, and heart for home-schoolers infuse every page.  I admire her sensitivity to students’ diversity of learning styles, and I marvel at the breadth of resources and variety of exercises that accompany every chapter.  Above all, I applaud her realization that history is so much more than the memorization of names, dates, and events.  Students will find her enthusiasm for history infectious and her approach to the past inspiring.

My daughter has used both the Ancient Civilizations and Romans, Reformers, Revolutionaries. These were the best two years of history she has ever had.  She RAVES about this program to everyone.  Just last week while she was at a cafe with a friend, she was talking about how great it had been.  A homeschool mother sitting at another table overheard the conversation and contacted me.  She said that she had never heard any child talk about loving their history like that and asked about the program.  I took her the books that we have so that she could look through them, and I believe she has already placed her order.  We are so happy for them!

Diana,

I had to let you know how happy I am with our choice of world history curriculum. I currently own Ancient Civilizations and the Bible and Romans, Reformers, and Revolutionaries. I knew when I opened the teachers manuals to the first page that this curriculum was (thankfully) going to be different. Acts 17:26-27 very clearly reveals His purpose in all of history and is the right foundation to build upon. I was even more delighted to see a 2-page spread devoted to the subject of Teachers as Followers of the Lord. I LOVE that!!

I had to let you know what a fabulous job you have done and how we are both enjoying it so far. I love church history. I love that you deliver a biblically balanced perspective on the "great men" of secular and/or church history. For example, I was aware that theologians were not united in their view of the authenticity of the conversion of Constantine based on some of his actions. So, I appreciate you giving that dimension to the story.

I have searched the world over for a biblically sound history curriculum with a strong evangelical and Christ-exalting focus, and it seems as though I have found it in the first two volumes of your History Revealed curriculum.

I praise God for your faithfulness to Christ and your discernment in rightly dividing the events of history.

Thank you so much!

for His glory,

Jenny Vass

To whom it may concern:

Diana Waring is one of my favorite researcher/curriculum writers.  As a lecturer on education who has traveled to almost seventy nations and lectured on the biblical foundations of education in over twenty nations and is currently an educational consultant in Indonesia for a large Christian school, I fully appreciate her valuable resources made available to the Christian education community.  Her accurate research, friendly writing style, creative practical ideas and spiritual insight provide not only useful resources but also curriculum directives for the Christian educator who wants to develop a biblical Christian worldview in his/her students, as well as see one's love and gratefulness develop to the Lord for His Story – what He has been doing since the beginning of time and man's response to that.  More than once over the past years I have consulted with Diana when I had for questions about something in history which I need a clearer biblically-based understanding.  She is highly qualified to do what she does and I am sure than in years to come, her work will be lauded for its value in education.  You will love being informed by her work.

First, I must introduce myself.  My name is Tami and I am happily married with 2 children, dd12 & ds10.  This is our 8th year of homeschooling.  I have been a lurker for quite a few years and have had this curriculum on the shelf for at least 2 years.  After a couple years of gaining wisdom from the people in this group, we have finally started AC&B this year.  [ the group -- http://groups.yahoo.com/group/sharingdwaring/ ]

The reason I post is not to brag but to say thank you to Diana for giving me the freedom to let my children learn in a way that they learn best.  I would just like to tell of some things that I saw as we went through the first unit.

My daughter, who learns well any way you teach her, did her usual good quality work all throughout the first 3 phases. When we got to phase 4 she REALLY blossomed.  She has enjoyed this week so much.  She can't wait to get to the computer to work on her "secret" project and she is also working on staging to put on a show for dad at the end of the week.

My son, who is not the typical "sit at your desk" student, has really enjoyed this curriculum so far.  . . . He has compiled a tri-fold board with information he has learned and wants to show it to his neighbors who believe in millions of years.  He has also researched the subject of radioactive dating and has chosen to do a little paper on John Dalton because he is fascinated by atoms.

Now, again, I must say I am not writing this to brag but to point out that I would have NEVER taken the time to teach a ten year old about atoms and radioactive dating.  I don't understand it and to me it is not interesting.  Also, it would not have fit into the "schedule".  This curriculum is a blessing to us.  Thank you!!

I have had the blessing of spending some time seriously talking with our oldest son (14 years) regarding his current studies and how he sees God leading him at present, and for the future.  We also engaged in evaluating his studies, and how he viewed our history curriculum.  His comments were that he really enjoyed the way ACB (you) presents history from the standpoint of God's plan for man and man's response to God.   He has enjoyed the material and the hands-on activities.

You are brilliant, your material is thoroughly God-centered and God-honoring, and there is limitless potential springing from the pages you publish.

May God continue to bless your efforts to honor and serve Him, as you work tirelessly to make history exciting, understandable, and God-focused for families.

Many, many thanks,

Carrie

Hello Diana. Just a quick note to tell you how much we enjoyed you at Beaverton, Oregon in August. We are home educating our daughters, 1st, 3rd and 7th grade. This is our second year. Today we started Unit 2 in Ancient Civilizations. We had wonderful discussions. I really like the way your Teacher GuideStudent Guide and Activity Book all work together. I was able to work with them, all together, leading discussion with ease. Today, after discussion, we sang “Jesus Loves the Little Children” with instruments (cymbals, maracas, horns, and rhythm instruments), over and over. By the way, I have had a long standing fear of history. Thank you for bringing it alive for me, and giving us the resources to bring it alive for our girls!

God bless,
Kathi, homeschool mom, Oregon

“…(We had) a fantastic, rich time – and all because you gave me the confidence to "teach" this way and God opened up unexpected avenues.  The best bit for me was I got to learn really interesting things from my excited children! We talked about it at breakfast, lunch and tea time, travelling in the car, doing housework! We are all excited about next year as I explained to the girls that we'll be embarking on your Ancient Civilizations and the Bible curriculum and they'll be able to continue to learn in a way that is different from how we had been doing things with repetitive book work. … What a wonderful ministry you have. Thank you again.”

I wanted to give a bit of feedback on Diana’s curriculum that we started using right after the convention. . . First of all, we LOVE it!  It is working wonderfully with my 14 year old who does not like to read.  The first day, he was not wanting to start a new book.  We took turns reading aloud the article and portions in the Bible about creation, him just doing what he had to in order to get finished.  Half way through the article, he piped up with “I think” such and such about what it said, and then later, “well I don’t think that” such and such about another statement, and so on through the rest of the article.  It was amazing how engaged he suddenly became in the process.  Even his sister was amazed.  If I would have brought up how wonderful the book was and how he seemed to like it, he wouldn’t have even known what I was talking about but he DID like it and thought through the subject more than he ever had.  He even repeated some of what he learned to his Dad later.  He also really likes the audios.  On a side note, the first day of listening to the audio, he would randomly get up and start doing push-ups.  Later I listened to the How-To CD and knew why (brain break with physical activity!!).  We’ve since added those to our “schedule”.   We’re now in Phase 2 and he is working on a genealogy project.  He loved being able to choose what he wanted to do.  I also love how the things we are doing “count” for our state records as social studies, science and language arts.

Hello,

I have two very energetic strong minded little boys ages 10 and 6, homechooled since birth.  I use the ACB with both and we are so blessed in many ways. Just today my 10 year old, who was doing. . .math, which he enjoys, said, "May I just take a break from school a moment and read?"  (Ha ha—he does not count reading as school, and chose a  book from my history resouce book basket I keep on a shelf ,ie the book pack books suggested by Diana.) "Sure," I say, then I just mention, "Would you like to create a collage or drawing illustrating the events or people we've studied since the tower of Babel.(Um, great idea Diana :) )  He says, "Oh, wow, thanks Mom!" and takes his break from school for the next hour doing a fabulous history project. . . and he never knew it was phase 4 of unit 1 in history! He just knew it was fun!!!

God is so good, and this is the best program I have ever seen! I've tried Sonlight, Mystory of History, and Story of the World, and worked as a professional elementary teacher for 7 years both public and christian schools, and there is simply no comparision!

I have to agree that this is the best history curriculum out
there.  Today we had an appointment and couldn't finish everything for
school.  We usually do history together during or right after lunch.
When my kids found out we had to skip it my two youngest actually CRIED!

In addition to that, my twelve year old has been so inspired by our
lessons that he has been reading the Bible non-stop.  This week he read
half of Jeremiah (he had already started it) his assignments in
Exodus–which were a total of 8 chapters, all of Judges and Ezra.  He
follows me around the house recounting old testament stories and
researching how much the gold and silver would be worth today that the
Israelites looted from their enemies.  How cute!
