Diana, this is a very timely entry for my life right now! I've been contemplating the seemingly insurmountable pile of tasks which need to be accomplished over the coming months while TRYING to live each moment with a thankful heart. Trying to build a daily habit of stopping and living in NOW, being grateful in and for all things. Every time the rushed, panicky feeling wells up inside, I make a point of specifically naming at least five things to thank God for. It really does change our atmosphere, doesn't it?
Thank you for taking time out of your busy research and writing day write and encourage others!

What a lovely load! Counting our blessings can be unending, especially when we live in such a blessed land. I'm so grateful for all that God has blessed me with, too. It certainly lightens our workload and our attitude to consider the daily load of blessings He puts on us.

Thanks, Lori! What a great idea about interviewing! And, I'll have to take a look at that software. Wonderful words. :)

Hey, Diana, great post! So true...writing is an incredibly complex process. One thing that I learned was of great help to my "reluctant writers" during the high school years was to "interview" them to help them gather their thoughts and opinions on a given topic. (Of course, this relates more to creative writing, not research papers.) I would write down their answers to individual questions, then we'd group the ideas into categories that they might use in different paragraphs. Eventually, they did this for themselves, using a MARVELOUS writing/organizing software called "Inspiration 8." It made a HUGE difference for them, especially for extremely right-brained Bryan.

Patience is everything when it comes to teaching writing :-)

Blessings,
Lori

Until reading this post, I never thought about just how many components there were in writing. I'll definitely be storing this in my Evernote account for future use with the youngest of my bunch. I guess sometimes as adults, we forget what it was like all of those years ago when we had to put forth so much effort to write. Keep the great posts coming!

That's a great idea, Penney! And, yes, that would definitely help us gain a glimpse into how difficult the art of writing is for students!!

Oh, the dreaded "handwriting"! This is very wise instruction. One thing Cindy Rushton had us do to get a better understanding of what it's like for beginning writers is that she would tell us to do some copywork using our left hand if we were right-handed or vice versa if we were left-handed. We could get a little bit of a feel for how frustrating and difficult it is for our young children who were just learning how to form all the letters and put them together into words and on and on to writing sentences, etc. so that we would be more patient and understanding with them. I thought it was very helpful in keeping a good attitude when working with young learners.

Penney,
Thanks. You said it eloquently and powerfully, with a perspective that comes only after many years of parenting.
