Most of us in school studied our courses in isolated blocks of time:

An hour for history;
An hour for literature;
An hour for science;
An hour for music;

etc.

However, that approach hampers a student from seeing how subjects tie together and how they influence the world. (For instance, the invention of the cotton gin is not just a subject to be studied in science - - it had a definite impact on history!) This block-style approach to academics also produces a lot of unrelated “factoids” floating around in a student’s brain. When we shift from a block-style, “learn this fact,” textbook educational approach, to an approach using integrated unit studies, real books and fascinating projects, our students will both understand how these subjects are connected AND retain vastly increased amounts of information.

The Digging Deeper Study Guides have already made the connections for you. By offering opportunities to learn history through geography, science, art, architecture, music, literature, creative writing, and more, the Study Guides are constantly connecting your history class to the real world. All you and your students have to do is dive in!

A wonderful complement to this integrated approach is the fact that students will learn new information from a combination of visual, auditory, and kinesthetic materials. This insures that your students have the opportunity to learn in the way they learn best! Again, the Digging Deeper Study Guides have already designed this multi-modality approach into every chapter. All you and your students have to do is use it!
