So many of us are homeschooling because we LIKE being together! History provides an amazingly fruitful opportunity for the whole family to learn together: read together, listen to tapes together, share what they have learned with each other, create art projects together, do salt dough maps together, put on plays together, sing together... the list is almost endless.

Rather than decreasing the effectiveness, learning together actually enhances it. That is why one-room schoolhouses produced academically-prepared students. That is one reason that homeschooling is producing academically-prepared students. And, if the truth be known, it is a lot more FUN!

I remember one evening sitting around our dining room table, listening to my three children talk with great enthusiasm and energy about what they were studying of the Hanging Gardens of Babylon. I looked at Bill in amazement and asked him, “Is this normal?”

Though the answer to that would have to be “No,” it could be that, in your family, as in ours, the answer will be “YES!”
